Byggmaskiner-Gruppen Sverige AB works with MCS & SRA to optimise operator safety

Swedish customer, Byggmaskiner-Gruppen Sverige AB, has been working with the Swedish Rental Association (SRA) and MCS to support the rental industry’s goals of reducing accidents on construction sites by making safety information more accessible to operators.

Byggmaskiner-Gruppen Sverige AB has introduced a label-printing system where QR codes are attached to every rented machine that can be easily scanned by operators’ smartphones. The QR code links to the SRA standard Personal Security Information (PSI) and user instructions for that specific machine and model.

The Swedish Rental Association introduced Personal Security Introduction (PSI) data sheets to describe important equipment safety information on safe handling, protective equipment, risk management and technical data in a consistent format to reduce the number of accidents in the workplace.

Byggmaskiner-Gruppen Sverige AB uses the MCS-rm rental solution and is the first Swedish company to fully embrace the SRA safety guidelines using QR codes on machine labels. Wille Törnkvist, Manager at Byggmaskiner-Gruppen Sverige AB, worked with MCS to adapt its MCS-rm rental software to allow the PSI document URLs to be attached to equipment specifications to enable direct access to them via scanned QR codes. Wille says, “We’ve been inspired to make safety information more accessible to our hire customers, having read last years’ headlines on the number of accidents on construction sites. It had to be easy for operators to access these documents otherwise safety can easily be overlooked."

Wille continues, “QR codes work with any QR reader on both iPhone and Android. By attaching a new QR code for each hired machine, we can always ensure that the customer receives the latest safety information. The advice and cooperation from MCS has been exceptional. MCS has enabled us to become the first rental company in Sweden with this QR code solution. We hope that it will lead to an improvement in worker safety on construction sites.”

Malin Finlay-Söderberg Nordic Account Manager comments, "Byggmaskiner is a really forward-thinking company and it has been a pleasure to assist in their desire to put operator safety at the heart of their business. MCS will continue to work closely with Hyreskedjan and the SRA to use innovative software solutions to ensure that equipment operators have all the information they need to be able to use any rented machinery in the safest possible way."
