From an Idea on a Napkin to a Multi-Location Rental Business

What began as a simple idea sketched on a restaurant napkin has grown into one of the region’s leading temporary heating and air rental companies.

Founded in 2012 by Mike Wilbur, Owner and Operator, Ohio Temporary Heating & Air provides temporary heating and cooling solutions for commercial and residential construction projects throughout the Midwest. Since opening its doors, the company has expanded to seven locations while continuing to invest in technology that supports its rapid growth.

“We started the company in 2012,” says Mike Wilbur, Owner and Operator. “We’ve grown from zero in revenue all the way to where we are today.”

As the business expanded, so did the challenge of managing an increasingly large fleet across multiple branches and job sites.

“Being able to track all of our equipment across seven offices became a challenge,” Mike explains. “That’s why we brought in MCS Rental Software.”

Growing Beyond Pen and Paper

Like many growing rental businesses, Ohio Temporary Heating & Air relied on manual processes during its early years.

“Before we started using MCS, we were basically tracking everything with pen and paper,” says JT Sturm, Software Director. “We acted like we had a system, but we really didn’t.”

As projects became larger and the fleet continued to grow, those manual processes quickly became unsustainable.

“It became a very large headache keeping track of what equipment was where, when it arrived, when it was removed, and when it had been serviced,” JT says.

Bringing Visibility to Every Job Site

With MCS Rental Software, Ohio Temporary Heating & Air gained real-time visibility of equipment across every branch and every job site.

Many of the company’s projects involve large commercial buildings with equipment spread across multiple floors, making accurate asset tracking essential.

“Some of these high-rise buildings we work on are massive,” says Emilio Rivera, Head Technician. “Having MCS available on your phone while you’re walking through the job site, scanning equipment, and taking photos makes everything so much more efficient.”

Mobile access allows technicians to update equipment information immediately without returning to the office, helping reduce administrative work while improving accountability. “Time is money,” Emilio adds. “At the end of the day, MCS saves us a lot of time.”

A Partner Through Every Step

Implementing new software can be a major transition, but the Ohio Temporary Heating & Air team says the support from MCS made the process seamless.

“When we made the change, MCS was there to support us from the start,” says JT. “They helped us all the way through implementation, and they’re still here to support us today.”

An Investment That Pays for Itself

For Mike, the return on investment became clear almost immediately.

“The investment we made in MCS is pennies compared to the return we’re going to gain in the future,” Mike says. “Honestly, you start seeing that value right out of the gate.”

Today, MCS plays a central role in the company’s daily operations.

“Even as the owner, I use MCS every single morning,” Mike says. “Every day I’m on MCS.”

Looking back at how the business has evolved, Mike sees technology as one of the biggest factors behind the company’s success.

“From our first days of being cowboys to becoming professionals, MCS has really helped us get there.”

A Recommendation to Other Rental Companies

Mike encourages other rental businesses to embrace technology sooner rather than later.
